Why RN Training Is Required To Become A Registered Nurse
Registered nurses hold the highest position among nurses working in a hospital. They supervise the licensed practical nurse and also the certified nursing assistants. As we know there is great career advancement when you are in a nursing profession, you may have started as certified nursing assistant, but by getting the experience and taking the necessary training you can become respectable RN. The responsibilities for them are to supervise every characteristic associated with patient care, educate patient about the diseases and explain the prevention procedures. A registered nurse also maintains patient’s medical history, oversees treatment, and operates medical machinery also investigates the result. Many registered nurses exert themselves to encouraging general health by educating people about symptoms of different diseases. While treating the patients, registered nurse establishes a care plan for patients such as managing the therapies and treatment, dosage, observe the patient record the values and consult with physician. They usually start working in hospitals and nursing-homes as staff nurses, but soon with experience and performance they go forward to the positions with more responsibility.
There are three instructive RN training programs; first one is a four years bachelor degree program (BSN) or Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing. Then the Associate Degree in nursing (ADN), and lastly RN training programs for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing are offered by the colleges and universities and its duration is also 4 years. You can take ADN Associate Nursing degree programs from mostly the community colleges and their duration is from 2 to 3 years. The third way to become registered nurse is the diploma programs administrated in hospital. The duration for these diplomas is normally 3 years. Students who possess the BSN degree or a higher degree in nursing have more chances for the advancement in career than the Associate degree holders and diploma holders. As the bachelor’s degree holders have more detailed familiarity with the areas of communication, critical thinking, and leadership, moreover BSN students carry more clinical experience as well. A bachelor’s or higher degree holders usually go the consulting, research and administrative positions.
After finishing the RN training programs, there is a licensing examination called The National Council Licensure Examination which is also known as NCLEX-RN. Students have to pass this exam to get the licence. RNs are not allowed to practice nursing by law before getting the license. Once you have passed the exam and you get the license, you can start work as a registered nurse in hospitals. While working as a nurse, you should possess the leadership, as a nurse will be supervising the licensed and certified nurses. They also have a caring and compassionate nature. A registered nurse needs to be emotionally stable in order to deal with major injuries. However working with uncooperative patients can also be very stressful.
Registered nurses work 40 hours in a week, mostly the shift is 8 hours long and rotating evening, morning and night shifts are required. While working as registered nurse you will be working on the weekends as well. Usually RN earns between $51,000 and $76,000 and in some cases they may earn more than $92,000 annually.
