law or nursing?
what should I choose as a major. The reason I’m looking at both is because I enjoy helping people, but nursing pays more in the interim after graduating. Law school is expensive with three extra years after undergrad. I’m better at english, and history more so than math & science; but it does’nt pay any money after graduating! Should I do BSN for the money, or BA>JD to become a lawyer my dream career?
I think one should always pursue their dreams. If you don’t you will always wonder what it would have been like. I know that law is not the instant path to riches some think it is, but their are financial downsides to nursing too. You will hit your salary ceiling more quickly in nursing. Raises will come in small increments over the years. Many nurses have found themselves taking cuts in pay to take positions such as “nurse on call” due to health related problems that take them from floor nursing. I have heard it said that nursing is for the “young bucks,” but no one has ever said that about the legal profession. I know one man who is severely handicapped and yet a very successful lawyer. Since your passions and skills seem more compatible with law I think this is the profession you would be happy and successful in.
