I need the top creatine powders and supplements?
I’ve been taking Bsn Nitrix and stacking with Whey Protein before and after workouts.
What creatine powders and supplements stack the best?
Hi Race,
There are so many supplements in the magazines and online that its difficult to know which ones do what they say they will. It’s a sad fact that generally the brands that advertise the most and sign up prominent athletes tend to do best as people believe they must be the best products.
Even for me, after 10 years of training and buying supplements I still have that mad moment every now and again where I end up purchasing a product that does little. I should really know better but still get caught out…that’s why most people get stung at some point or another.
One quick tip…Always remember that the muscle mags are really catalogues! Keep your BS filter set to high!!
To get to the truth about the products I always try to review studies into supplements to see if there really is any substance behind them. I’m not talking about the ones in the ads (these are usually paid for by the supplement company and therefore have a favourable outcome) I’m talking about independent studies.
Check out http://pubmed.com/ for a good starting point if you want to look into them yourselves.
In terms of the supplements you are taking now, whey protein is without doubt the best pre and post workout protein source available. Just make sure its real whey and not loaded with other cheaper proteins like egg and Soy Protein.
In terms of creatine this (like whey) is one of the few supplements that really do work so well done for including these two in your supplementation programme. That said, be careful that you are not paying more than you should for your creatine.
Studies show that good old Creatine Monohydrate is the best, most effective form. Newer designer creatings like Creatine Ethyl Ester (CEE) and others have no benefits over monohydrate and they are more expensive.
As long as the Creatine Mono is creapure then you will be fine. Pubmed has studies that support this. This will save you a tonne of cash as you won’t be paying premium prices for the “premium” brands!
One last thing worth mentioning, creatine is absorbed better when taken with fast digesting carbs such as dextrose, maltodextrin, waxy maize starch etc
Your whey protein may already include carbs of this nature but if it doesn’t then it could help you to add them in.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck!
