Current Research Proves Whey Protein Isolate Benefits For Muscle Building and Recovery
Whey Protein Concentrate has health advantages, one of these has enhanced muscle recovery after a powerful workout. Numerous scientific studies have established that Whey can make a significant effect on how fast parts of your muscles recover.
The James Madison Study Within the James Madison University lab, a study was conducted that compared Gatorade with Whey to see which aids muscle recovery more. The research found that participants who had the Whey supplement reduced their muscle damage by as much as 83% while Gatorade participants didn’t show marked improvement. The athletes in the study who took the Whey supplement also showed a 20%+ improvement in endurance and stamina.
The Journal of Physiology Study The Journal of Physiology conducted a study to see whether Whey really contributed to muscle recovery, or if Whey’s results can have been just as effective if Whey was taken at another time as opposed to right after physical exercise.
In this study, there were two sets of athletes. Both had an identical Whey protein drink after their workout. One group had it immediately after the workout, while the second group had their Whey protein two hours after exercising.
The first group showed an 8% rise in muscle gains plus a 15% increase in strength after 12 weeks. There was no improvements in the latter group. The conclusions the researchers drew based on the data was that Whey does indeed help with muscle recovery. In fact, Whey’s muscle recovery properties are its primary benefit that causes increases in strength and muscles.
Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition Study The JISSN study was conducted in a double-blind fashion, meaning there were two groups and neither the researchers nor the participants knew which group was which until after the study.
Group #1 was handed a Whey supplement, which Group #2 was given just carbohydrates. They took these supplements two times a day. The study lasted 14 days, with the intention to see if Whey really helped with muscle recovery.
End result were measured by testing Creatine kinase levels. Creatine kinase is an enzyme that bleeds out of cells when the cells are damaged. The amount of Creatine kinase in the bloodstream is directly correlated to how much damage there is in cells and how quickly the cells are recovering. The results from the study were that Group #1, the group that took the Whey supplements, had a much lower Creatine kinase level than the group that simply took carbohydrates.
In other words, the research established that the Whey group had faster muscle recovery than the carbs group. These are just three of the many studies that have been conducted on Whey protein as an enhancement to muscle recovery. Whey has been tested time and again as a staple for both muscle gain as well as muscle recovery.
If you’re a serious bodybuilder who’s working out and therefore causing muscle strain frequently, then supplementing Whey will go a long way towards helping you recover muscles faster, which will result in more endurance in your next workout as well as larger gains overall.
