How Many Calories Do Medifast Shakes Contain?

I get a lot of questions about Medifast shakes.  People want to know how they taste, how many calories are in them, if they are high in nutrition, etc.  I also find that a lot of people who think that they’re only going to be consuming shakes while on this diet.  In the following article, I’ll outline the calorie, carb, and protein content of many of the popular Medifast shakes.

The Calories And Nutrition In The Medifast 55 Shakes:  I would have to say that the most popular shake choice is the 55.  This one comes in the monthly women’s packages and it’s pretty tasty.  This one contains 90 calories, with 10 of these coming from fat. There are only 13 grams of carbs, 11 of protein, and only 8 of sugars.  Also, this one contains over 25% of the daily value for over 25 vitamins and minerals.

Calories In The Medifast Ready To Drink Shake: Also popular are the ready to drink variety.  You don’t have to use a blender for these.  They are ready made.  All you have to do is pop in the straw and drink them.  These have the exact same caloric and protein content as the 55 (90 and 11 respectively), but they are lower in sugar, at only 6 grams.

The Appetite Suppression: This one is also a popular choice because it contains an ingredient called Super CitriMax that is meant to make you less hungry.  This one is a little more caloric as it contains 100, but it’s also much higher in protein at 15 grams.

Diabetic Shakes: The diabetic shakes also have 100 calories, but they only contain 5 grams of sugars and 10 grams of carbs.  A lot of people who think that some of the other options are too sweet really like the taste of these.

Since All Of The Shakes Have Roughly The Same Calories, Which Should I Chose?: To be honest, most all of this diet’s meals are around 90 -100 each.  So, once you’ve eaten all five, you’ve taken in about 500 calories, giving you a lot left over for your lean and green meal.  So, it really doesn’t make much of a difference which variety that you chose.  The 55 is the most popular and it does come with the packages.  However, you aren’t bound to this.  Using design a menu, you can pick and chose whatever you like, as long as you end up with 143 meals (unless you have a coupon for free food and you shouldn’t place an order without one.)

Obviously if you have a blood sugar issue, you may want to opt for the diabetic option.  (And in this case, there’s a special package for you so you don’t have to use design a menu unless you just want to.)  Some people will opt for these if they don’t like sweet flavored desserts.

If you think you’ll have problems with hunger, the appetite suppression is on option, but I can tell you from experience that since you’re eating six times per day, it may not be the problem that you thought.

The ready to drink may work well for you if you don’t want to be bothered with the blender and value convenience over all else.  I would recommend chilling these first and serving them cold though. I actually like to freeze them and pretend that they are a frostee.
