Rancid Walnuts…Question About Storage?

I usually keep my shelled walnuts in a big ziploc bag in my pantry, but I have recently heard that you are supposed to store them in the fridge or freezer because they go rancid fast. This morning I ate a few walnuts from a bag in my pantry that’s been in there a month or two, and they tasted a little funny.

Will I get sick from eating a few walnuts that were no good? Also, how should I store walnuts from now on?

Thank you

You won’t get sick, just that the oils in it have started to go mature, and they smell. Next time around, move that ziploc into your freezer or buy in smaller batches.
