The brand cenovis fish oil is currently being distributed and marketed by sanofi-aventis since the brand was acquired in the year 2008. Sanofi Aventis is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world today. Their fish oil products were previously owned by Cenovis brand itself which was founded by a pharmacist in the name of William James Rogers in the 1970′s.
Focusing more on cenovis fish oil, the site offers at least three kinds of fish oil supplements. These are:
- Fish Oil Odourless 1,000 mg capsules – It contains:
Fish oil – 1000 mg
Omega-3 triglyceride form – 300 mg(EPA-175 mg/DHA-70 mg)
- Fish Oil Forte 1500 mg capsule – It contains:

Omega-3 triglyceride form – 400 mg(EPA-175 mg/DHA-70 mg)
- Joint Guard Omega-3 500 mg/ Glucosamine Hydrochloride 500 mg – This supplement is pretty obvious on what it contains. The reason is for the addition of Glucosamine Hydrochloride is for the relief of Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, back pain, glaucoma, and knee pain. The ingredient breakdowns are:
Fish oil – 500 mg
Glucosamine hydrochloride – 500 mg
Omega-3 triglyceride form 150 mg (EPA-90 mg/DHA-60 mg)
Although the site says that the fish oil supplements have been tested for pesticides and metals including mercury, the site was not really transparent enough with regards to the whole process. One good way to determine the quality of a fish oil supplement is by looking beyond the omega-3 content of the end product. As a consumer, you have to be able to verify the source of fish used as well as where it was harvested. That is if they do have their own boats. You end up wondering if they got it from fish oil wholesalers. The processing technology used is also important, whether or not the oil underwent purification and molecular distillation processes.
Obviously, the latter process was not applied because the concentrations of omeg-3 essential fatty acids are very low. The amount of omega-3 that a product can offer in each capsule also is one factor in choosing a superior fish oil supplement. The category of omega-3 in this brand is way below the standard health food grade type which is 30 percent of the total amount of fish oil.
The Joint Guard Omega-3 500 mg is mainly composed of Glucosamine Hydrochloride. The omega-3 is very low which makes it a very impractical fish oil supplement but more of the glucosamine hydrochloride, since you are required to take only one capsule per day.
As far as superior quality is concerned when it comes to omega-3 fish rich fish oil supplements, the fish oil supplements from cenovis is not that significant. But it does not mean that you should not try it. It is just not what you might be looking for if you want to have optimum health results from omega-3 EFA’s.
The most important thing is to ask for a Certificate of Analysis if you are contemplating on purchasing the cenovis fish oil.
